Obituary

Jerry Lee Hiatt of the Ground Hog Mountain area of Carroll County, Virginia, died Tuesday, March 28, 2017, in the palliative acute care center of Forsyth Hospital. Born February 24, 1955, to Clarence and Stella Hiatt (deceased), Jerry’s love of family, friends, and the mountains formed early on. He graduated from Carroll County High School and began a long and successful career as a chef and restaurant owner, manager and consultant. Jerry’s most beloved role in life has been as the father of his children: Lennon Hiatt (Melissa), Angela Hunter (Mike), and Eliza Hiatt (Danny). His greatest joy came from being around his grandchildren: Alexis, Christopher, Eli, Violet, and Aubrie. He delighted in every ball game, fishing time, visit to the park, or birthday party that involved these loves of his life. His brothers, Fred and Ledford Hiatt, and his sisters, Hazel Jessee and Vanessa Mascia, are still around to enjoy Jerry’s memory, as are his stepmother, Nannie Hiatt, and step sisters, Brenda Bass and Sandra Creasy. Two other brothers, Earl Sanford and McElroy Hiatt, predeceased Jerry. Jerry’s world was sometimes full of hardships, but fuller still of love and happiness for his many relatives, friends, and colleagues. His talents in the kitchen brought joy to those he served, most recently to his church family at Out of the Box Worship Center in Hillsville, VA. Visitation will be held, Saturday April 1st at Moody Funeral Home from 2-4pm. A Celebration of his life will be held on Sunday April 2nd at Out of the Box Worship Center 516 N. Main Street Hillsville, VA, 24352, at 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations in honor of Jerry Hiatt be made to the Recovery Ministry at Out of the Box Worship Center.
