Wythe District Annual Lay Servant/Lay Speaker Training Event – March 6th & 7th at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wytheville, Virginia. The Book of Discipline encourages all church Lay Leaders to become Certified Lay Servants which they may do by attending a Basic Course plus one additional advanced course. This training is not just solely for Lay Speakers (or those who wish to speak from the pulpit). They will also cover topics such as Leading Worship and the Heritage of the United Methodist Church which would be beneficial to anyone in a leadership position in the church. Registration Form.
This year, they are also offering a Youth Basic Class and encourage all interested District youth to participate in this training. Youth Information and Registration Form.
Extraordinary Women Conference – Women interested in going to the E-Women Conference in Roanoke Oct 2nd & 3rd can sign up now to go at the lowest rate of $55.00 for admission & lunch. There is a sign up sheet on the Information Desk in the Lobby or contact Linda Newman at 276-733-7066 or email email@example.com. Money for tickets & lunch ($55.00) is due by March 1st. Mission Trip Opportunity – We are putting together an Adult Inner-City Mission Trip to Atlanta GA, May 22nd – 24th to work with the Homeless. We will share the Gospel with them, listen to their stories and share our stories with them. It will be very affordable but space will be limited to the first 20 or so to sign up. I believe God has a fresh vision for this team to discover. We are planning on handing out Comfort Kits to the homeless and need donations of supplies for these kits. Here is a list of supplies needed.
Food Pantry Drive – OOTBWC will be collecting Food Donations to contribute to the Community Food Pantry at FUMC Hillsville. To participate, bring an item from the list below and place in the marked box in the lobby. Also, cash donations are always appreciated—simply write “Food Pantry” in the memo of your check and place it in the offering. The following is a list of needed items: Oatmeal or cereal, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, beef stew, canned spaghetti sauce, NO GLASS JARS & pasta, soup, canned green beans, peas or corn, dry rice, pinto beans. Change for a Dollar – Give one dollar each Sunday to the “Change for a Dollar Missions Fund”. The funds will be used to help transients, homeless, addicts, anyone who needs a little help. There will be a small envelope in the bulletin packet to use to put your dollar in and place it in the offering.
Youth – meet on Wednesday evenings from 8pm – 9pm for Bible Study at the Youth Center on Main Street. Youth are going to Winter Jam on Sat Feb 14th and Youth need to turn in a permission slip. Meet at the church Sat, 2/14 at 9:30am.
Bible 101 – A Bible study for the rest of us. The group is not meeting the month of February, but, will resume meeting on Sunday, March 1st at 11:15am upstairs in the Kitchen Area at OOTBWC. Questions? Contact Frances Brown at email@example.com.
Crafters for Christ – This is a group that meets regularly and makes special gifts, cards and service projects for others. If you like doing crafts, knitting, crocheting or sewing and want to get together with this group, contact Cindy Brown at firstname.lastname@example.org or Bonny Webb at email@example.com. The next meeting is Sat 2/21 from 10am – 2pm. This group is putting together “March Forth” boxes for our College Students and Military. There is a tub in the lobby where you can donate items for these gift boxes.
Church League Basketball – There’s still time to sign up to participate in Church League Basketball and be on the team for OOTBWC. There is a sign up sheet on the Information Desk in the Lobby. Contact Jason Smith if you have any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org. (Ages 15+)
Outings for Men – if you have any ideas or suggestions for outings and fun activities for the men at OOTBWC or if you would like to join in on the fun, contact William Clower at email@example.com. There is a suggestion box on the table in the lobby. March 27th – 29th the Men will be going to the Outlaw Trails of West Virginia. We will have groups leaving Friday morning and Friday afternoon. If you have an ATV and love to play in the mud this is the trip for you. There will be some traveling with us who will have Side by Sides for those who would like to go but don’t have access to an ATV, you can still get in on the fun. If you like to tent camp, pull a camper, or stay in a bunkhouse. Cost and more details coming soon.
