Matthew 5:17-20 NIV
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
No perfect people allowed. I work in what seems at times to be a hostile environment as a pastor. People on the inside of the church get angry at the sin of the people on the outside of the church and people on the outside of the church get angry at the sin of the people on the inside of the church.
People inside the church don’t understand why people outside the church don’t behave better. And people outside the church don’t understand why people inside the church don’t behave better.
People inside the church often get frustrated and leave the church because they say, “It is impossible to live up to the standards of the Bible.”
People outside the church get frustrated and say, “There is no way I will ever become a Christian, I could never live up to the standards of the Bible.”
Both of these groups of people have misunderstood the Gospel!
#1. It is IMPOSSIBLE to fulfill the Prophets.
#2. It is IMPOSSIBLE to fulfill the Law.
#3. It is IMPOSSIBLE to keep all the Commandments.
#4. It is IMPOSSIBLE to be better than the Pharisees.
There are no PERFECT people.
So how in the world do we go to heaven, if the standard is perfection and it is, then how in the world do we get there.
Impossible? For you it is, Jesus has already done it on your behalf.
