Blog Post from Donna Cato
Well it has been another AWESOME SUNDAY starting with the best part of every Sunday, worship at OOTBWC. There are so many ministries starting up and moving through our community it is “Crazy Love” in action. Love is an action verb you know. Ronnie is starting a new sermon series for July. It REALLY is CHANGE you can believe in.
I know God is behind all the enthusiasm, all the conviction etc. because everywhere I go I am hearing the chatter from people wanting to S.O.H.O. (for those of you who don’t know what that is, it is Brenda Harmon’s new vision for those in our church who want to “step out and help out”).
There is a new song, so new I can’t pull it up on you tube, called “Let me make a difference in someone’s life today”. At OOTBWC, we want to make a radical difference in a whole lot of people’s lives in our community. We want to transform the Carroll County area with a saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Jesus is who it is all about. We want to emulate His life and be servants in the field where He has planted us. OOTBWC wants to change the status quo of the erroneous image that so many people who are “un-churched” have of the church.
The church is not a denomination nor is it a building. The church is you and me . . . “people”. It goes with us everywhere we go, the church is ‘us’. We are a reflection of His grace and mercy and a reflection of the “Mission” of OOTBWC. Last week Ronnie quoted stats about the un-churched in Carroll Co. and the 78% number was staggering to me. We want to change that! Amen? We want to put more workers in the field. We want to change the concept that the church is a place that you go to “get something”. You go to get a good message, some good food, some good friends etc. . . . But, most people have it backwards, Jesus’ idea of the church was for “people to come together to GIVE” . . . and share the “gifts” that He has already given them. He wants them to put their gifts on the table to use for the building up of the whole Body of Christ. He doesn’t give everyone all the same abilities, talents or knowledge.
What He does give is a burning desire to be the very best you can be at whatever gift He has given you. Empty yourself of the things that strangle you because you don’t have everything you think you should or your church isn’t perfect, or your family isn’t perfect, or you “can’t” do things you wish you could. Empty yourself of all the “I can’t s” TODAY.
Run to the Word of God and fill up with a tank full of “I can’s”. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. The Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive. This is a truth that I really believe in. If you are busy “giving” to someone else of your money, your time, your talents, you won’t have time to think about what you don’t have . . . instead you will be blessed beyond measure when you realize the smile you are putting on your Savior’s face. The Bible also says that whatever you do for the least of one of these, so also you have done for me.
There is unspeakable JOY in doing something for others. Just like Ronnie was talking about today, to the person who is unable to mow their grass, the gift of getting their grass mowed is an AWESOME gift. To the elderly person who can’t climb up on the ladder and change a burned out light-bulb, having someone come and do it for them is the sunshine of their day. EVERYONE has something to give and giving that gift if far greater than anything you will ever receive. It’s all about LOVE and the merger/union of commandment #1 and commandment #2 . . . where is your heart today?
