April 7, 2011
I have been reading, remembering, contemplating, and just wallowing in your words as I prepare for this message on Sunday. What makes you cry? This is the question we are asking, what is it that just gets you to the place where the tears begin to flow and there is nothing you can do about it.
Of course, death is one of the number one answers I have received in response to my question, what makes you cry.
One year ago in May, I had to deal with several deaths in our church, in our community and in my own family. I am going to share with you here the sermon that I preached on May 2nd, 2010 where I deal with the fact that I have done 3 funerals, one memorial service, dealt with the pain of a 19 year old dying in our community, and then just a day or two after this sermon I did the funeral of a 21 year old man who was murdered. It was an unreal time in my ministry.
Then just 3 weeks later on one of the best days in my ministry life, I helped to baptize several people that Sunday, May 23rd, it was on this day that my brother who was only 13 months older than me died in a tragic automobile accident. The following week I did one of the hardest things I have ever done, I preached and addressed the subject again.
Sunday we will deal with some very difficult questions. I hope you will be there to discover TRUTH.
